How it all started

In 2010, I did research on "How Parents Can Modify The Behaviours Of Their Children" and put it on my website. At the time, I had no intention of publishing it as a book, but something happened.

People saw it and started calling me to ask for my permission to print it, so they would be able to read it offline, because smartphones and internet connection were not as ubiquitous in 2010 as they are now.

Because I was keen on people reading it, and excited that they found it valuable, I obliged and put a note on the site encouraging people to print and read it offline.

3 of those early readers called and convinced me to publish it as a book. I took their advice, expanded the scope of the work and published the first edition. To the glory of God, the first edition got sold out within 12 months.

A Lawyer bought 20 copies to use as gift to clients, and 5 other people bought 10 copies each to share to colleagues, friends and families. That was how Successful Parenting Secrets was published.

 

What parents should know

The first thing every parent needs to understand is that children are gift from God to parents, and like every other gift, there are both privileges and responsibilities.

Like every other thing in life, what you sow into children is what you reap from them. If you sow carefully and with commitment, you will reap the benefits of a successful parent who raised responsible children. And if you sow carelessly, you will surely reap frustration.

If you allow others to train your children for you, you will surely reap the disappointments of mismanagement. But if you take it upon yourself and understand that your children are your primary responsibility here on earth, and then train them with the right parenting principles, you will surely reap the product of your commitment in due time.

It's good for parents to understand that while their children are not required to be thought and trained to eat and to drink, to cling to their possessions, or to run to their parents in danger or pain because they have natural instincts which provide for them; but to speak, to read, to write and to calculate; to tell the truth when lying would have served the present purpose better, and to obey their parents at the expense of their childish will; to face bravely fancied danger, and to bear patiently unavoidable pains are attainments which no natural instinct can adequately provide. There are instincts that can aid, but none can be relied upon without proper instruction and training by the parents.

Admittedly, in our society today, it's not easy to raise responsible children and there is practically no other job that's more demanding than raising children, but it's worth the effort. However, there are certain principles that will shorten the learning curves for you and save you the agony of trial and error.
